Cummins Western Canada (CWC) is committed to providing the best possible customer service, which includes respecting and ensuring the security of our customers’ personal information. Our Privacy Policy describes the various practices and security measures that have been implemented at CWC regarding the collection and use of personal information, in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Any personal information you provide though the CWC website will be subject to the terms of our Privacy Policy. Using the Web Site signifies your consent for CWC to collect, use, and disclose your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
The PIPEDA is a federal legislation that came into force on January 1, 2004 for all businesses in the private sector. Governed by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, its purpose is to regulate the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by businesses. Cummins Western Canada has appointed Laura Wait, Director of Human Resources, as the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO). All questions and concerns will be replied to within 30 days.
COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
The collection of personal information will be limited to what is necessary for CWC’s business purposes. Personal information will only be gathered with the knowledge and consent of the individual. Cummins Western Canada assumes that personal information provided by customers and employees is done so willingly, and represents the implied consent of the individual to collect and use the information for the purpose for which is was provided.
The CWC website may ask you to provide certain personal information, including shipping information (name, address, telephone number), credit card information, and purchase data. Providing this information is voluntary, but may be required if you wish to complete an online purchase.
INFORMATION AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED ON WEBSITE
The Cummins Western Canada website automatically collects the following information:
- Cookies: The CWC website uses 'cookies', which install information on a user’s computer. One cookie is generated and used to store each customer’s shopping cart on their computer. This allows customers to stop the order process if they are interrupted, and still access their shopping cart on without having to start over. All cookies are deleted after 72 hours. Customers may choose to decline cookies, if their browser permits, but will not be able to re-access their shopping cart if they do so.
- Like many websites, the CWC website automatically collects certain information from website users, including the IP address of the user, the date and time the website was accessed, the pages viewed, the browser used, and the bookmarking of pages. This information is non-identifiable, and used for system administration purposes.
USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
All personal information shall only be used for the purpose for which it was collected, except with consent of the individual or where required by law. It will not be used for marketing purposes, leased, sold, or shared with any third parties except those required for the transaction.
Personal information will only be available to those employees who require access to it for business functions. Personal information is provided to third parties only where it is necessary for the business transaction. Third parties include, but are not limited to, Cummins Inc, financial institutions, and government agencies. CWC does not authorize third parties to use the personal information provided to them for any purpose other than the transaction for which is was provided.
CWC is committed to protecting the personal information of its customers and employees. All security measures are established with the intent of providing safeguards appropriate to the information. All CWC employees are responsible for protecting all personal information to which they are privy.
CWC believes that its network and data protection measures employ a reasonable level of technology to protect against the unauthorized use and collection of personal information. These measures are as follows:
- Physical Records: Personal information in hard copy format shall be kept in locked file cabinets or offices. Access to these locations will be restricted to those employees who require the information for business transactions.
- Electronic Documents & Databases: Personal information stored electronically as documents or in databases shall be protected by user passwords. Access to the databases will be restricted to those employees who require the information for business transactions. All employees with access to personal information shall lock their computers if they leave their workstations.
- Network Traffic: Personal information transmitted over networks is protected though the use of firewalls, 128-but encryption codes, secure file transfer protocols, intrusion detection software, and virus protection software.
- Online Orders: Personal information gathered through the CWC online store is protected through the use of firewalls and 128-bit encryption codes.
- Financial Documents: Financial documents (e.g. cheques, credit card slips, etc.) shall be considered confidential and processed as quickly as possible.
- Duplication of Information: Duplicating personal information for reasons other than normal business is strictly prohibited. Duplication includes photocopying, scanning, transcribing, or transferring.
The CWC website may contain links to non-Cummins websites or other Internet resources. CWC is not responsible for the privacy practices of these websites.
Upon request, any individual shall be granted full access to his or her personal information and informed of its use and disclosure at CWC. Any information found to be inaccurate or incomplete shall be amended as appropriate.
